YOUR INFORMATION
Privacy Policy
This policy explains what Root & Page collects, what stays on your device, and the choices available to parents and other visitors.
Effective and last updated: July 31, 2026The short version
- Root & Page is made for parents and guardians, not for children to use on their own.
- Your book-finder answers stay in your browser unless you begin paid checkout. At checkout, the profile needed to provide the subscription is attached to your Stripe order.
- We do not sell personal information. Meta and TikTok measurement and full Google Analytics measurement activate only if you choose to allow them.
1. Who we are
Root & Page is a service of Half Media LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company. In this policy, “Root & Page,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Half Media LLC.
Questions or privacy requests may be sent to support@rootandpage.com.
2. Who the service is for
Root & Page helps parents and guardians choose English-language children’s books. The service is directed to adults and is not intended for children to create accounts, make purchases, or submit personal information.
A parent may enter a child’s general age, reading comfort, interests, family reading style, and reading goals. Please do not enter a child’s full name, school, address, contact information, health information, or other identifying details.
3. Information involved in the service
- Book-finder details: general age, reading comfort, interests, family reading style, goals, optional notes, saved books, and recommendation history.
- Browser information: language choice, usage month, saved books, and book-finder progress stored in local browser storage.
- Payment and subscription information: Stripe processes payment details for paid plans. When you begin paid checkout, we attach the child’s general age, reading stage, interests, family reading style, goal, language, and optional note to the Stripe Checkout Session and subscription so we can provide the service. We may also receive limited transaction information such as name, email, plan, payment status, and transaction identifiers, but not your full card number.
- Support communications: the email address and information you choose to include when you contact us.
- Basic technical information: our hosting and security providers may process IP address, browser type, device information, request time, and similar logs needed to deliver and protect the site.
- Optional performance measurement: if you choose “Allow measurement,” Meta Pixel, TikTok Pixel, and Google Analytics may process page views, browser and device identifiers, and limited events such as starting the book finder, viewing a recommendation shelf, beginning checkout, confirming a purchase, or following an Amazon link.
4. What stays on your device
Book-finder answers, recommendation history, saved books, and the monthly free-use count are stored in your browser’s local storage. They are not transmitted to a Root & Page account or application database. If you begin paid checkout, the profile fields described above are also stored with your Stripe order. Clearing this site’s browser data removes the local copy but does not remove transaction records held for subscription, tax, refund, fraud-prevention, or legal purposes.
Meta and TikTok measurement does not load until you choose “Allow measurement.” The base Google tag may load with analytics and advertising storage denied so it can respect your consent choice; full Google Analytics measurement starts only after you allow it. We do not send these providers a child’s age, reading stage, interests, goals, optional notes, saved books, recommended titles, or payment-card details. Essential cookies or similar technologies may still be used by infrastructure providers and Stripe for security, checkout, and site delivery.
5. How we use information
- To provide, remember, and improve the book-finder experience.
- To process subscriptions, provide receipts, and manage cancellations.
- To answer support, refund, privacy, and legal requests.
- To secure the service, prevent abuse, diagnose problems, and comply with law.
- To understand service performance using aggregated or de-identified information where practical.
6. When information is shared
We do not sell personal information for money. If you allow optional measurement, we share limited website activity and technical identifiers with Meta, TikTok, and Google for analytics, ad measurement, and advertising. Some privacy laws may call this “sharing,” targeted advertising, or cross-context behavioral advertising. We may also disclose limited information to service providers that perform work for us, subject to appropriate restrictions, or when required to protect users, enforce our terms, complete a business transaction, or comply with law.
- Hosting and security providers that deliver and protect the website.
- Stripe, to process payments and manage subscriptions.
- Meta, TikTok, and Google, to measure website activity and advertising performance under their own privacy terms only after you allow optional measurement. Before consent, the base Google tag uses denied storage settings and does not send the optional site events listed above.
- Amazon, only after you choose an Amazon link. Amazon then handles your visit and purchase under its own privacy notice and terms.
- Professional advisers, authorities, or transaction partners when reasonably necessary for legal, safety, accounting, or corporate purposes.
7. Children’s privacy
The service is designed for parents and guardians. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child under 13. General information supplied by a parent is used to generate recommendations and, when the parent begins paid checkout, to provide the subscription through the associated Stripe order.
If you believe a child has sent us personal information, email support@rootandpage.com. We will investigate and delete information where appropriate.
8. Retention and security
Local book-finder information remains on your device until you clear it or your browser removes it. We retain support, transaction, tax, security, and legal records only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here and applicable recordkeeping requirements.
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no online service can guarantee absolute security. Do not send payment card numbers, government identifiers, passwords, or sensitive information by email or through the optional book-finder note.
9. Your privacy choices and rights
Depending on where you live and whether a particular privacy law applies to us, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a portable copy of personal information; to opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising; to limit certain uses of sensitive information; and to appeal a decision. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right.
Send requests to support@rootandpage.com with the subject “Privacy Request.” We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify the request. An authorized agent may submit a request where permitted by law, subject to verification of authority.
You can decline optional measurement when the privacy notice appears or reopen “Privacy choices” in the site footer at any time. Declining prevents Meta and TikTok measurement from loading and keeps Google analytics and advertising storage denied on future visits in that browser. You can remove locally stored book-finder data through your browser settings.
10. United States service and policy changes
Root & Page is intended for users in the United States. Information handled by us or our providers may be processed in the United States.
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post the revised date and provide additional notice when required. Continued use after an update means the revised policy applies from its effective date.
