USING ROOT & PAGE

Terms of Service

These terms describe the agreement between you and Half Media LLC when you use Root & Page.

Effective and last updated: July 29, 2026

Important points

  • The service is for adults choosing books for a child; it is not a reading test, diagnosis, or guarantee of progress.
  • Any paid plan will renew at the interval shown at checkout until you cancel.
  • Books bought from Amazon are separate purchases between you and Amazon or the applicable seller.

1. Agreement and provider

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) apply to the Root & Page website and related services operated by Half Media LLC, a Massachusetts limited liability company. By using the service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. Eligibility and parent-directed use

You must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a binding agreement. Root & Page is intended for parents, guardians, educators acting with appropriate authority, and other adults. It is not intended for children to use independently.

You are responsible for the information you enter and for reviewing whether a recommendation is suitable for your child and family.

3. What Root & Page provides

Root & Page uses the stage, interests, goals, and family context you select to suggest real English-language books and parent guidance. Recommendations are general informational suggestions, not a reading assessment, educational diagnosis, medical or psychological advice, tutoring, or a promise of any academic result.

Book availability, editions, prices, descriptions, and age guidance can change. Parents and guardians should review a book’s content and format before purchase or use.

4. Free and paid access

We may offer a limited free experience and paid subscription plans. Features, limits, and prices shown on the service or at checkout form part of the offer. We may change future plans or features, but will not change the price for an already-paid term.

Some features may be unavailable until checkout and account tools are fully enabled.

5. Subscription billing and cancellation

If you purchase a monthly or annual plan, you authorize the price and billing interval clearly shown at checkout. Subscription fees are charged in advance and automatically renew at the same interval until canceled. Applicable taxes may be added.

Before charging, checkout will identify the plan, amount, renewal interval, and how to cancel. Payments will be processed by Stripe or another disclosed payment provider. You must provide current and accurate billing information.

You may cancel at any time through the online subscription-management link made available with checkout or by emailing support@rootandpage.com. Online cancellation will not require unnecessary steps. Cancellation stops the next renewal; unless a refund applies, access continues through the paid term. We will send renewal notices where required by law.

We may change a renewal price only for a future term and after any notice required by law. If you do not accept the new price, you may cancel before it takes effect.

6. Refunds

Our Refund Policy is incorporated into these Terms. In general, you may request a refund of a Root & Page subscription charge within seven calendar days after that charge. Additional refunds may be available when required by law or described in the Refund Policy.

7. Amazon and other third parties

Root & Page may provide affiliate links to Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. A book purchase is made from Amazon or the listed seller, not from Root & Page. Product payment, shipping, returns, warranties, customer service, and product data are governed by that seller’s terms.

Third-party services, including Amazon and Stripe, have their own terms and privacy practices. We are not responsible for their independent services, but this does not limit rights that cannot legally be waived.

8. Acceptable use

  • Do not use the service unlawfully, fraudulently, or to harm another person.
  • Do not interfere with security, scrape or copy the service at scale, reverse engineer protected parts, or attempt unauthorized access.
  • Do not enter a child’s full name, school, address, contact information, health information, or other sensitive identifying details.
  • Do not misrepresent that Root & Page, Amazon, a publisher, or an author endorses you or your use.

9. Content and intellectual property

The Root & Page name, design, original text, recommendation logic, and service materials are owned by Half Media LLC or its licensors and are protected by applicable law. You may use the service for personal, noncommercial family use. No other rights are granted.

Book titles, covers, author names, publisher information, trademarks, and third-party materials belong to their respective owners. Their appearance does not imply endorsement.

If you send feedback, you allow us to use it without restriction or payment, but we will not publicly identify you without permission.

10. Availability, suspension, and changes

We may maintain, update, limit, or discontinue features. We may suspend access for security, fraud, nonpayment, or material violation of these Terms. If we discontinue a paid service before the end of a term, we will provide a reasonable remedy such as continued access or a prorated refund.

11. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We do not warrant uninterrupted operation, a particular book’s availability, or that recommendations will meet every family’s needs. Nothing in these Terms excludes warranties or consumer rights that cannot be excluded by law.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Half Media LLC will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from the service. Our total liability for a claim will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid Root & Page during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or US $50.

These limits do not apply where prohibited, or to liability that cannot legally be limited.

13. Governing law and resolving concerns

Massachusetts law governs these Terms, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except that mandatory consumer protections in your home state continue to apply. Before filing a claim, please email support@rootandpage.com and allow 30 days for an informal resolution.

If a dispute cannot be resolved, state or federal courts with jurisdiction in Massachusetts may hear it, unless applicable law gives you the right to proceed elsewhere. These Terms do not require arbitration and do not waive any non-waivable right.

14. Changes and contact

We may update these Terms. Material changes will apply prospectively and receive any notice required by law. If a change materially affects a paid term, it will not take effect for that term without your agreement unless legally required.
